JAKARTA, Indonesia – Starbucks Skyline reopened on Monday, February 1, two and a half weeks after suicide bombers and gunmen targeted the cafe.
There was little fear from coffee lovers downtown, with many regulars returning to the popular coffee shop which is central to a number of large office buildings.
Staff at the cafe were wearing red T-shirts with "#sharelove" written across their backs, to celebrate the opening.
On Thursday, January 14, Jakarta saw 4 terrorists and 4 civilians killed in consecutive attacks, with Starbucks the site of the first attack.
In response, Starbucks closed all stores in Central Jakarta, before reopening all but the Skyline store on Friday, January 15.
The cafe came under attack at approximately 10:40am, when one suicide bomber entered Starbucks and detonated a bomb.
Two gunmen then opened fire as customers attempted to flee the cafe, many of whom had been wounded by the bomb.
The terrorists also targeted a nearby police post, with one police officer killed during the attacks.
Islamic State (IS) officially claimed responsibility for the attacks which killed 8 and injured 28 others.
13 individuals were arrested across Indonesia in relation to the attacks. – Rappler.com
